Sowing Seeds of Peace, Webinar, 15 October, 2024 2pm UTC
Commemorating the International Day of Peace, this webinar shall explore the transformative role of religious literacy in fostering a more peaceful and understanding world for everyone.

In a diverse world, the absence of religious literacy can deepen divides and misinterpretations of values and worldviews, impacting how people of all ages engage with those from different backgrounds. It is crucial to include religious literacy in both formal education and life-long learning to help individuals of all ages understand the role of religion in promoting reconciliation, healing, and peaceful coexistence. This knowledge enhances critical thinking and empathy, equipping learners to approach global challenges with an informed and compassionate perspective.

This webinar aims to underscore the significance of integrating religious literacy across educational settings and life-long learning as a key contributor to promoting global citizenship, intercultural dialogue, and mutual understanding, fostering more peaceful and cohesive societies for all ages.

Highlighting how interreligious dialogue (IRD) organizations are advancing religious literacy across educational curricula and life-long learning, it will showcase innovative approaches and best practices, offering participants the opportunity to discuss challenges and strategies for integrating religious literacy into diverse learning environments.

Women from Sikhism, Islam, Buddhism, and Catholicism came together, united by both their shared values and the unique challenges they face—ready to discuss their roles in driving change. They recognized the power they hold, despite often being undervalued, underestimated, and overly judged. The next morning, these women reconvened to brainstorm collaborative solutions to their common struggles.

The following strategy document outlines the vision and mission of the International Dialogue Centre – KAICIID (King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue) for the strategic period 2024–2027. In a world characterised by escalating conflicts and complex challenges, the need for dialogue and understanding among diverse religious and cultural communities is more crucial than ever. With over a decade of experience in promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue, KAICIID has established itself as a unique intergovernmental organization that brings together religious leaders, policymakers, and followers of different faiths and traditions.

The new Strategic Plan envisions a peaceful world where people of different religions and cultures live together in harmony, recognising their shared humanity and working towards common goals, enshrined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda. The mission of KAICIID focuses on promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue as a means of building understanding, respect, and peaceful coexistence among people of diverse beliefs and cultures. Four strategic pillars will guide KAICIID’s efforts to establish alliances, promote learning, build institutional credibility, and ensure effectiveness. By aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and key international conventions and resolutions, all founded on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, KAICIID aims to contribute significantly to peacebuilding, education, reduced inequalities, and human rights and freedoms, with particular focus on freedom of religion and belief, and the well-being of communities worldwide.
