Interreligious Dialogue and/or Cooperation? Critical Reflections from a History of Religions perspective - Efforts for interreligious dialogue are not a recent phenomenon: There are texts from medieval times that give a report on conversations between adherents of different religions. From a History of Religions perspective, questions arise about the effectiveness of interreligious dialogue nowadays, leading in turn to the question if there are alternative or complementary strategies that could contribute to peace today. The lecture will be held in German. Translation into English will be available.

Speakers
Prof. Dr. em. Ulrich Berner is a Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Bayreuth and focuses especially on syncretism and encounters of religions, religions and violence, religions and science, as well as religions in antiquity. He is the author of a wide range of articles and has contributed to many internationally recognised works.
Respondent
Prof. Dr. Dr. Kurt Appel is a Professor for Theology at the University of Vienna and spokesperson of the "Religion and Transformation in Contemporary European Society" platform. His research focuses on philosophy of religion, religious pluralism and religion in modern Europe.
This public lecture takes place in the context of KAICIID’s ‘Dialogue beyond Dialogue’ conference. The conference seeks to bring together theoreticians and practitioners, in particular, in the field of interreligious dialogue from various regions around the world to further study the phenomenon of dialogue from different disciplinary perspectives and to translate them into applied knowledge.
