In a world where geopolitical conflicts seem relentless, the International Dialogue Centre - KAICIID is taking bold steps to support women as leaders in peacebuilding. Set to make a significant impact at the International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) from October 28-30, 2024, in Manila, Philippines, KAICIID aims to convene innovative collaboration between Asia and the Arab women leaders to inspire change on a global scale.
The conference, themed “Forging Collaboration and Convergence for Advancing Women, Peace, and Security,” will gather representatives from governments, civil society, and academia to tackle urgent issues surrounding women’s roles in creating peaceful societies. At the forefront of this effort is KAICIID, which will participate during a Special Forum titled "Bridging Regions for Women, Peace, and Security (WPS)" on October 30. This Forum is set to be a hub of diverse perspectives, featuring influential leaders from Southeast Asia and the Arab region to understand the need and the scope of inter-regional collaboration platform.
At the heart of KAICIID’s mission during the conference are three key objectives:
KAICIID efforts to empower women would not have started with this conference. Through initiatives like the Women’s Voices Webinar Series and the SheforDialogue programme, KAICIID not only spotlights women’s contributions to peace but also convenes forums where spaces are provided to women to engage in Interfaith and Intercultural Dialogue. The KAICIID’s Fellows Programme has also empowered women globally, equipping them with the tools to implement impactful peace and dialogue initiatives in their communities.
The conference will feature esteemed speakers, including H. E. Amina J. Mohammad, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, H.E. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister for Foreign Affairs (Bahrain), H.E. Wafa Saeed Yacoub Bani Mustafa, Minister of Social Development & Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment (Jordan), Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UAE), alongside prominent women peacebuilders from both regions. Attendees will also include high-level representatives from UN Women, government officials, religious leaders, and civil society members, all engaged in vital discussions to propel the WPS agenda forward.
KAICIID’s involvement is a testament to its leadership in promoting interreligious dialogue as a vehicle for peace. Studies have shown that including women in peace processes leads to stronger and more sustainable agreements. The successes of women-led peace movements in Liberia, the Philippines, and beyond serve as powerful examples of what can be achieved when women take the lead.
Through its active participation during the International Conference on WPS, KAICIID is not just advocating for women’s leadership; it’s laying the groundwork for a future where women have the tools to engage cross regionally and be vital contributors to global peace efforts. By bringing together diverse voices and experiences, KAICIID is forging new pathways toward collaboration and understanding that transcend borders.
As the world looks to build more inclusive and peaceful societies, KAICIID stands ready to play a pivotal role in connecting key actors and fostering the transformative dialogue necessary for lasting change. The future of peacebuilding is here, and it’s led by women.
